UPDATE: February 14 2025: The Director-General of Health, Dr Diana Sarfati has resigned. She has given 7 days notice and nothing more because that’s how much she values and truly cares about New Zealand. Her final day is 21, February 2025.
It is this publications opinion Dr. Diana Sarfati never took her role seriously she instead climbed the corporate ladder as a DEI hire and this publisher doesn’t apologise for saying it. Enough with the woke nonsense it’s the truth.

Last week, bombshell revelations by the deputy PM sent ripples through New Zealand's political and health sectors. The Ministry of Health, under the leadership of director-general Dr. Diana Sarfati, has been exposed for failing to adhere to one of the fundamental principles of the public service "No Surprises Policy" a Cabinet manual convention 3.26(a) intended to keep ministers informed of anything that could embarrass or challenge the government.
Dr Diana Sarfati | Director-General & Chief Executive | Ministry of Health
Dr Sarfati's Ministry completely failed to notify it's minister that one of their senior health officials had an actual conflict of interest, and is, the sister-in-law to the opposition Health Spokeswoman and sacked (at the 2023 general election) former Health Minister Ayesha Verrall.
Prime Minister Chris Luxon has joined kiwis in the widespread public rebuke of the Ministry of Health after it apologised for failing to declare to minister Casey Costello that a staff member working on smoking regulation reform for more than a year was a close-relative of Labour’s Ayesha Verrall. It comes as the ministry told the NZ Herald it is now reviewing its processes in light of the “oversight” of not alerting the Associate Health Minister of the conflict-of-interest.
Unfortunately, for many kiwis the Ministry's apology is considered bullshit corporate jargon, a politically correct statement and first-step in a series of events to make 'right' a bad situation.
1. Acknowledge "conflict of interest"
2. Publicly apologise to the Minister
3. No further comment. (The story will naturally go away)
Not once has the Chief Executive who is also the Director-General of Health been called out for breaching her duty by any politician or journo in the mainstream media until now
Therefore, today I am calling on the "Acting" Public Service Commissioner, Heather Baggott, to order an investigation and also to open an employment investigation of 'serious misconduct' into the executives at the Ministry of Health for their admitted failure to disclose conflicts of interest to it's minister.
I am calling on the new Commissioner of the Public Service, Sir Brian Roche when he takes the reigns of the Public Service Commission next week on 4th November to continue any and all ongoing investigations into the Ministry of Health.
I have no doubt what has been done is absolutely unethical, disgraceful and totally unacceptable. This whole debacle is a national disgrace.
Feral Verrall, Associate Health Minister Casey Costello's Number #1 Chief-Critic
Sacked (at the 2023 general election) former Health Minister Ayesha Verrall.
Ayesha Verrall is the Associate Health Ministers' #1 chief-critic. Verrall is on an active mission to embarrass the minister and disrupt the governments agenda. Verrall is upset that Costello took her job, well not exactly, but she is mad that Costello is the minister responsible for reforming smoking laws, Verrall's smoking laws.
For more than a year now, Verrall has been leading petty, nasty, disgraceful attacks directed at the totally capable and professional Associate Health Minister, Casey Costello. Verrall is the lead lunatic activist calling for the Prime Minister to sack Associate Health Minister Casey Costello of which the PM has rightfully and completely ignored.
Kiwis can assume Ayesha planted her close relative and family member, her beloved sister-in-law in the Ministry of Health's executive and, or, policy wings, declared the conflict of interest (at the time when she was minister) and then proceeded to bury it internally before she was sacked as Health Minister at the 2023 general election.
Ayesha Verrall is not only New Zealand's first DEI appointed "Rainbow" Health Minister she is an EXPERT in censorship, suppressing important critical facts from the public's attention, manipulating narratives to suit her arguments and coming for anyone that challenges her regulations. Verrall enjoys a game of dirty-politicking.
Verrall argues Minister Costello cannot be trusted but she is wrong. It is Verrall who cannot be trusted, and it is Verrall that is by far way more dangerous to kiwis and has already caused more harm to New Zealand than Casey Costello's Ministerial appointment ever will.
This is precisely why she Costello maintains the full trust and confidence of the Prime Minister, Deputy PM, coalition colleagues and most informed New Zealander's. Kiwis are not stupid, we see the harmful disinformation and misinformation campaigns, we see a concerted political attack and unacceptable trolling and online bullying, we see the intolerable sustained harassment of a NZ Cabinet Minister, we see all the negative news articles about minister Costello and sadly it is all because of the BULLSHIT rhetoric coming from the Radical-Dangerous-Extremist-Left and kiwis ought to condemn it!
It's hard being in opposition everybody knows that, but it doesn't mean opposition MPs get to deliberately bullshit kiwis just to get ahead. Labour need to immediately check their culture because that is a losing election strategy.
The Director-General's Careless Management & Oversight at the Ministry of Health is Serious Misconduct

Appointed under the reign of Jacinda Ardern
Dr Diana Sarfati, was first appointed by former deputy public service commissioner Dame Helene Quilter as the 'acting' Director-General of Health following the early resignation of Dr Ashley Bloomfield in 2022.
Dr Sarfati succeeded Bloomfield and was officially appointed Director-General of Health by retired public service commissioner Peter Hughes two months before Jacinda Ardern's GREATEST announcement ever—her resignation!
According to Crown Law, under s 52 and clause 1, schedule 6 of the Public Service Act 2020 and s 34 of the Public Finance Act 1989, Chief Executives of the Public Service are responsible to their portfolio's Minister and have a duty and responsibility to inform their Ministers of any 'potential' or 'actual' conflicts of interest.

The fact that the Ministry of Health under the leadership and direction of Dr Diana Sarfati, completely failed to notify and inform it's minister of the potential or actual conflict of interest is not insignificant or simply a small oversight, it is SERIOUS MISCONDUCT and a SERIOUS EMPLOYMENT MATTER and kiwis are within their RIGHT to expect consequences.
Last Thursday, the Ministry apologised to the minister but their apology was too late and NOT good enough. It was a bullshit apology the damage was done. This scandal paints a picture of a bureaucratic misstep or, more ominously, a deliberate omission.
Director-General of Health Dr Diana Sarfati's ministry disgracefully apologises to minister following conflict of interest revelations.
If the director-general hasn't already done so, she, should immediately, TODAY, without delay, voluntarily offer her resignation to Minister Costello in order to help restore public confidence and trust in the Ministry of Health.
There's no denying the Ministry, tasked with safeguarding public health, now faces scrutiny over how a 'conflict of interest' could be overlooked or ignored, especially in matters as contentious as tobacco regulation.
Dr. Sarfati's careless negligent management and oversight as the Director-General and Chief Executive of the Ministry of Health has directly led to communication breakdown between the Ministry of Health's Executives and the Crown which is now a national political scandal and urgent employment matter.
Dr Sarfati's failure to manage conflicts of interest at the Ministry she leads, is NOT simply another isolated oversight incident, it is deliberate, careless, negligent mismanagement and it amounts to SERIOUS MISCONDUCT.
The director-generals inaction and failure to disclose under the no surprises Cabinet manual convention is an utter failure and disgrace for a public service Chief Executive. Dr Sarfati has directly brought the minister and the government into disrepute.
Dr Sarfati as Chief Executive, should at the very least offer her absolute immediate and unconditional resignation to the Associate Minister following revelations last week exposing her Ministry's for completely failing to keep it's minister informed.
The "No Surprises" breach is serious and totally unfknacceptable!
This Political Scandal Erupted When Deputy PM Winston Peters Raised The Issue In Parliament And Brought The Debate To His Personal 𝕏 Account.
The deputy Prime Minister revealed that not only was Verrall's sister-in-law involved in policy discussions, but she was also privy to sensitive documents on tobacco reform without declaring her conflict of interest.
Deputy PM Winston Peters official Statement on Ministry of Health's failure to declare conflicts of interest
Opposition leader Chris Hipkins weighs-in on Mr Peters statement.
Chris Hipkins responds to Deputy PM Winston Peters statement.
Mr Peters didn't shy away from Hipkins comment and instead the DPM doubled down on his original statement whilst at the same time calling the Labour leader out for...
1. Outright lying or
2. Being lied to by Ayesha Verrall
It should be noted that the opposition leader Chris Hipkins did not respond back to the Deputy Prime Minister after he responded to Hipkins comment.
Deputy PM replies to Chris Hipkins
The next day, on Friday afternoon the deputy Prime Minister Winston Peters posted again to his personal 𝕏 account continuing to call out Labour leader Chris Hipkins.
The next day Winston Peters posted on X again calling out the Labour leader.
Mr Peters then followed up on his post 3 hours later tagging @chrishipkins saying "waiting for your comment on this post like you did yesterday..."
About 3 hours the deputy PM baits the opposition leader saying he was waiting for Hipkins reply.
Winston's revelations sent shockwaves throughout New Zealand, with some kiwis now questioning the ethics of all Public Service Chief's appointed under Labour, and whether or not they have a collective hidden agenda to secretly sabotage this Coalition Government after widespread funding cuts, staff cuts and publicly announced government reforms.
Labour have absolutely benefited from this conflict of interest breach but they are not personally or collectively responsible for the 'actual' failure to disclose/inform the Minister. The duty and responsibility was the Ministry of Health's and theirs alone. We need to hold the executive leadership accountable and to higher standards.

Social Media Erupts After Revelations Made Public By Deputy PM Winston Peters
On 𝕏 one user, under the handle @Suitandtie9999, sarcastically remarked on the ease with which one might forget about Verrall's family involvement, despite it being prominently featured in internal communications.
Another user, @aniobrien, expressed shock at the ethical lapse, highlighting the failure to declare a conflict of interest as "utterly unethical."
"Kiwis are demanding answers"
How could such a clear conflict not be flagged? Was there intent to keep this information under wraps? The implications are vast, touching on the very integrity of policy formulation and the trust between government departments and their elected officials.
As the nation watches, the fallout from this scandal could lead to significant reforms in how conflicts of interest are managed within government departments, potentially reshaping the landscape of political accountability and transparency in New Zealand.
This story, rich with intrigue and implications, is far from over, for now there is only one person ultimately responsible for all of the failings at the Ministry of Health and that is the Director General and Chief Executive Officer, Dr Diana Sarfati.
